Tim Brando: No SEC teams will make four-team playoff

By Andy Johnston

There’s no SEC bias in Tim Brando.

The SEC Network hired the longtime broadcaster earlier this month, but when gave his prediction for the four teams that would make up this year’s first college football playoff, no SEC team could be found.

He said UCLA will play Michigan State in one national semifinal and Florida State will play Oklahoma in the other.

Brando made the predictions during his daily radio show — “The Tim Brando Show” — which he hosts from 9 a.m.-noon on the SiriusXM College station.

Here’s his preseason Top 10.

He left CBS in January, after 18 years of broadcasting NFL, college football, college basketball games, and serving as the host for several of the network’s studio shows.

Auburn AD sounds like a 6 year old fan. He has boasted publicly quite a few times. Not very professional.

Was he around department when school officials and nutcase booster secretly flew a jet to woo petrino? Just another class move by auburn, undermining Tubberville.

Isn't Auburn overdue for their every decade probation?

by the way I do know how to spell Slobberknocker. just don't know how to change the misspelling in the ajc data bank

Brando is over the top. Obviously he is trying to stir the pot. He has been a boob for years.  The only way the SEC champion is shut out is if they have 2 losses. Possible but not likely. No way is a Mora coached team going to beat Texas, Oregon, Stanford and USC in the same season. Michigan State has one good year and everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. They won't duplicate last year. I do believe Brando (somehow) got two right, Oklahoma and FSU. Both could go undefeated and a 1 loss Oklahoma would probably make it in if Big 12 champ.

My predicted Final 4 is FSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, and the SEC champion (either ,Auburn, Bama or Georgia in that order of probability). Ohio State might luck in since they play absolutely nobody and may go undefeated..

brrando is still furious with the sec after getting fired by cbs, the SEC network!

I'm taking this as a Kettle One moment. Brando has lost his mind. The only thing that can stop the SEC is the SEC or a team like FSU who recruits from the same pool. Other than that it's three teams in with ease.

I like Brado, but he's not very smart. UCLA #1? USCe # 5? Please

Oh, my.  Let me get this straight.  Brando picked a team coached by Jim Mora to actually WIN something?

Really think he made this prediction for the Shock Factor. While his Top 10 is not complete bad do think it is upside down. Here are the 4 Teams that make Playoff. 1. FSU, 2. Ohio St., SEC Champ, Oregon or Oklahoma.

Oklahoma:  no better than 6th. Maybe up to 4th after bowls.  Potential great season is sure to be deflated by losing one surprise game due their getting over confident and letting their guard down.

HarveyPooka

UCLA?  Where did that come from. . . they've not been able to put together back-to-back impressive seasons since the Gary Beban days. I wish them well, but don't bet your retirement savings on this ranking and let's revisit this rating after the season.

Would someone please check Tim Brando for a Brain Tumor?

Tim Brando has been irrelevant for many years and his outlandish predictions over the past several years only reflect his lack of common sense.

Everything that has come out of his mouth about the SEC the past 4 years has been negative with the exception of Ole Miss where his daughter went to school and his praise for Les Miles at LSU his beloved State school of Louisiana.

This just adds fuel to the SEC fire.  Oh poor us, we play each other and that will knock all of us out of the run for the Championship. So they will say we will go commando with a National Football Championship of our own... Just the SEC. We will call our Conference Championship the National Championship.  Yes forget all you other so called power conferences, yes, you PAC 12, B1G, BXII & ACC guys don't have any teams that can compete with the SEC.

Of course all lies but when they feel persecuted that's all they can think.

They have a point but just don't know why they have a point.

Fix it, yes we can.

Do it with a total Reorganization of the FBS. Make all the Conferences equal in status, size and strength of programs. Give every one of the 120 teams in this new football only Major College Football Division a fair chance to win a spot in the 16 team playoff by having them compete against all 9 other teams in their Conference for their Conference Championship spot.  This makes the Regular Season games all important for the first 12 spots and a second chance for 4 teams that win the most games.  Every Regular Season game counts for the first time EVER.

The Perfect Playoff Plan 16 is at http://ncaa2014.us/conferencerealignmentchart.pdf

No SEC team(s) in final 4 ........ It's called "I'm Tim Brando, a clown that needs callers calling-in to justify my paycheck ... how do I get a bunch of unintelligent, SEC-homers to call my (new, SEC Network) show?"

And it worked ... wecanbeexceptional took the bait.

Come on people. I almost don't read these blogs anymore because of all the childish insults. Here's an idea; When you type something, read it out loud to yourself and if it sounds like a third grader on the playground at recess, hit delete instead of enter. Good day.

Prediction: Alabama will beat UGA to win the National Championship but will lose in the regular season to Auburn, who will play for the SEC Championship against UGA.  This will put UGA and Alabama in the playoff.  Other 2 teams: FSU, UCLA.  Qualifier - I'm not Alabama fan but I realize how good they are.  FSU will be undefeated but will lose in round 1 of the playoff to Alabama. The other team - UCLA - who will get smashed by UGA in round 1.  Bullpups will make it to the NC but lose a close game to AL.

If no teams from the SEC make the playoffs, something is wrong with the new system.

gtcaryd

leefrommeeks, I think the experts spin one of those big wheels like on The Price is Right. They must have UGA on there more than once.

leefrommeeks

In five years Georgia Southern will be on same level as Georgia Tech and within ten UGA. That's my prediction ........this it going to Bama to NC or maybe South Carolina Steve as keep his mouth shut so he may have a great team. UGA will find away to lose to somebody they are suppose to beat. Why do they pick NC every year?

gtcaryd

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the dawgs finish in the top 25 this year.

aarh

I think most of those teams should be good, but there's not way in the world I expect LSU or SC to be that good. Both teams lost a ton of talent, & LSU wasn't even that good last yr to begin w/.

Princess_Leia

Brando's preseason picks look pretty good. At least he's not swilling the dwags' Kool-Aid. Championship game: Alabama beats FSU in a close one. The only  the dwags get in that game will be to buy tickets.

So what.....let the man make his prediction.

No different from what everybody does on blogs EVERY DAY.

Difference is, he's paid to give his opinion.

Tim Brando knows less than my granddaughter.  I will go with Phil Steele's prediction; UGA the surprise team in 2015 playoff games.  Tim Brando, please, quote someone with expert knowledge.

Ole Timmy don't much care for Alabama and this is the reason for his chapped arse.

Alabama leads the series 48–25–5.

Four of Mr. Brando's picks will not make the top ten. He will have a few questions at SEC Media Day.. Lets remind him of this in Jan.2015

@GTBob

What would make you happier Bob? Georgia Tech having a great season and shocking the college football world or the SEC crashing and burning? It wouldnt shock me at all if no SEC team made the four playoff (a) It could cannabalize itself and no team deserves to make the cut (b) the anti SEC sentiment like yours could rule the selection committe..An undefeated or one loss SEC champion like always will be in the mix.Which as we know gets your underwear in a bunch..Dream on

You mean quote only someone who is biased towards Georgia winning it all this year.  Even your not so knowledgeable granddaughter fits into that category, I would assume.

@Rick_James @GTBob For all the beating up on each other the SEC does, they didn't often have a two loss champ in the BCS era.  I can only think of two...UGA in 2005 and LSU in 2007.  That's what it would take for the SEC to miss this playoff (assuming the other 4 major conferences produce a champ with less than 2 losses).

GTBob
GTBob

@Rick_James GT having a great season of course. Why would you think I wouldn't want my team to succeed? Im just not a big fan of how ESPN manipulates college football in order to protect its investments.

Ihateorange

@gtcaryd @Dman agree with the first part of your comment, however it wont Auburn, they wont be in the game much less lose it. They were a 1 hit wonder... Id say 9-3

@JimBoBob based on what metric do you think GaSou has passed TECH? I can't wait to hear how you try to make your case.

GTBob

@MikeS777 That is because the SEC doesn't actually beat up on each other. Its an idiotic myth.

@GTBob @Rick_James  Boo-Hoo Bobby. :(

ESPN has nothing to do with it.

ESPN orchestrated the Iron Bowl last year?

Be thankful for that game -- saved FSU & the ACC lots of embarrassment.

@BigCrimson75

ESPN is the reason Auburn beat Bama.  Let me take a long break before bursting out in total laughter....please.  Maybe Auburn, or ESPN in your mind, saved your team from great FSU embarrassment based on what Oklahoma did to the Sabanites.

GTBob
GTBob

@BigCrimson75 I don't even remotely care about FSU or the ACC. That is where we differ. The Iron Bowl was what it was. A good game. That same day UGA and GT had a good game. Michigan and Ohio State had a good game. Its irrelevant to what im talking about and you know it.

ARdawg
ARdawg

@gtcaryd  Color me strange but, I'm guessing UGA will make a run long beofre Tech does :)

GTBob
GTBob

@ARdawg I have fantasies of it. It is just not likely to ever happen.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 You can call it trolling all you want. Tennessee beats SC and barely loses to UGA and its an example of conference parity and how great all of the teams are. They lose by 45 to Oregon in the same year and SEC fans pretend like it never happened and continue to claim that teams like Oregon wouldn't even be competitive in the SEC. The parity argument is garbage. Tennessee was a really bad team last year and probably will be this year. Trying to build up teams like them and Miss St just makes you guys look dumb.

GTBob
GTBob

@ARdawg Yet the last decent run made by either team was in 1990 by Tech.

PaulinNH
PaulinNH

@GTBob

Coming off their big games against Austin Peay and W. Kentucky, it was tough for the Vols to get up for the Ducks.

ARdawg
ARdawg

@GTBob @ARdawg Nah, not really Bobby. The last one would have been 2012 UGA. Beat Bama and they were in

GTBob
GTBob

@PaulinNH No SEC team has ever lost a game against an OOC opponent unless they didn't want to be there. Didn't you know?

GTBob
GTBob

@ARdawg Yep, UGA beat a whopping one ranked team in the regular season thanks to their 6 turnovers, got slaughtered by SC, lost the championship game, and played in a mid tier bowl game. What a run that was.

TravisBickle2014
TravisBickle2014

@BigCrimson75 so If Bama doesn't make it in the playoff game they will refuse to play in another Bowl game? Am I read you correct? Bama will only play for #1 or nothing. I think the SEC will force you to play for any position because they want that MONEY.

ARdawg
ARdawg

@GTBob @ARdawg You are missing the point from your own statement Bobby. If UGA had beaten Bama in the SEGCG, they would have played ND. Are you denying that it was a given? The SC loss notwithstanding, it would have still happened. That was much more recent than 1990 and oh uh....Tech hasn't even come close to making a run since that time

GTBob
GTBob

@ARdawg You didn't beat Bama, and you didn't objectively have that great of a year. You beat one top 20 team. Whoopty doo. Just because you had the potential to do something relevant doesn't mean you made a good run. You couldn't get there. You tried to make a good run and you didn't have it in you.

MikeS777
MikeS777

@gtcaryd @PaulinNH @BigCrimson75 That's twice under Saban that Bama got it handed to them after "settling" for the Sugar Bowl.  Utah wiped them out in 08 after Bama lost to UF in the SECCG.  They definitely didnt come to play either game like they did the National Championships.  That's a big problem too.

ARdawg
ARdawg

@GTBob @ARdawg Oh the seething jealousy in you Bobby. Very unbecoming. It was a "run" at the National Championship whether you wish to admit it or not. Winning the SEC would have propelled UGA into the NC. That is a run Bobby. A "run" btw that Tech hasn't experienced since 1990 and likely won't before 2099

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Bama came to play. They just got swatted like a nat by a superior Oklahoma team.

GTBob
GTBob

@ARdawg You didn't even make it to the championship game. You played a cream puff schedule, moseyed into the SEC championship, lost it, played in a mediocre bowl game and ended the season. Sorry but that isn't some magical run. You didn't accomplish a single thing that season.

MikeS777
MikeS777

@GTBob @MikeS777 Uh yeah ok, Bob.  You mean the same superior OU team that themselves got swatted by Baylor and Texas.  But then Ole Miss swatted Texas so that should mean Ole Miss is superior to Bama right...wait that didnt work out.  Ok Baylor swatted OU, but got swatted by UCF who got beat by South Carolina who lost to Tennessee who got swatted by Oregon and Bama...wait..

I get it now...see anything can happen on any given day especially with a month off from football?  Yep thats probably more like it.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Yep. I guess that was a case of the incredible Big 12 beating up on each other, huh? Oh wait that only applies to the SEC for some reason.

GTBob
GTBob

@BigCrimson75 Stoops probably just got sick of hearing how much his team had no chance against the unbeatable semi pro Alabama team. Similar to Charlie Strong the year before that. If you tell someone they have no chance over and over again and then they win convincingly, don't expect a gracious win.

MikeS777
MikeS777

@GTBob @BigCrimson75 More like Stoops has been hearing his new nickname "Beatdown Bob" for over 10 years.  He's gotten himself thrashed in every big game outside of the Red River Rivalry since the 02 season.  LSU, Florida, 2011 Oklahoma St., Kansas St., Baylor, A&M Cotton Bowl, Boise St. 07 Fiesta bowl, WVU 08 Fiesta bowl, 2004 USA national title game vs USC...on and on haha

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Once again, how does Richt's record look when compared to Stoops? Does Richt have 8 conference championships, 4 BCS wins, and a National title to his name? You can hate Stoops all you want but his resume makes your coach's resume look like dawg crap.

MikeS777
MikeS777

@GTBob @BigCrimson75 Kansas St. actually trashed him twice...in the 03 Big 12 championship and in 2012 to win the Big 12. haha.

MikeS777
MikeS777

@GTBob @MikeS777 Just like Bob to try to deflect an argument he knows he lost haha.  Richt doesn't play in the Big 12.  He lost to the LSU and Florida teams in SEC play that Stoops got worked over by in the National Title game.  He has to beat those teams just to get out of the conference.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Why is that funny? He has plenty of big wins to go along with his losses. No coach is perfect but he is by far one of the best. Way above any coach UGA has ever had.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Just to add a little more to this. In the last 5 years, UGA's record against teams that finished ranked is a laughable 7-20. Oklahoma is 14-15 against teams that finished ranked in the same time period. Not only did Oklahoma play more ranked teams they beat twice as many as UGA.

GTBob
GTBob

@MikeS777 Nobody cares. There are good teams in every conference. Florida, Auburn, LSU, Alabama, all seem to have cracked the SEC code lately. Why can't UGA? You don't get extra credit for losing to the good teams on your schedule. Some other teams like Oklahoma are beating the good teams on their schedule.
