Aaron Hernandez is in 2014 Florida football calendar

By Andy Johnston

A photo of Aaron Hernandez, the former Florida TE who has been charged with killing three men, is in a 2014 University of Florida sports calendar.

A photo of him with the ball is featured for the month of July.

Officials approved the calendar in the spring of 2013, shortly before Hernandez was arrested on June 26, 2013, in the slaying of Odin Lloyd, Florida spokesman Daniel Apple told The Associated Press.

“There are thousands of Gators products for approval in the pipeline at any given moment,” he told the AP.

He added that the school just became aware of the calendar, which was for sale at Target.com, on Monday. The calendars will not be recalled.

Hernandez, who played for Florida from 2007-09 before playing for the New England Patriots from 2010-12, has been charged with killing Odin Lloyd, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is in jail.

I guess it guilty until proven innocent now.....but nontheless, not a good move by the University to run those.

Posting to you is sort of like watching tennis on TV.  I do it sometimes, but I never like it.  Makes no sense to do it.  Got to get better at avoiding things I do not like very much.

DawgNole.....(and others foaming at the mouth on here)

Like the University of Georgia and Free Shellfish U.........Florida has merchandising agreements with many sports marketing companies that have signed agreements with the university to market items with the university logo and former players and make money from it, as long as they pay royalties for the use of logos, symbols, and player images (including paying those former players as required).  Companies submit proofs for production to the university before they are produced and those proofs are either approved or not approved.  After approval, said company will produce the merchandising product (as in this case, a calendar).  Once it is approved, the university has no say in its production or distribution, unless the approved proof for production was altered in any way after approval (then the company is subject to lawsuit).  In this case, the marketing people employed by the UF approved the calendar for production by a company before Hernandez was charged and arrested.  The company that is marketing the calendars through Target and elsewhere most likely printed the calendars before he was arrested as well.  In that case, the company is stuck with the calendars and the university has no say if or when the calendars will be sold in stores.  Target should refuse to sell the calendars, but they probably have a contract to honor as well. So foam at the mouth with personal insults towards the University of Florida and me all you want.  It just more deeply confirms to me what a small minded coward you are, DawgNole.   And for the rest of you making stupid posts, educate yourself.  It will not hurt your brain.

per a 2010 article in USA TODAY, between 2005-2010 a dozen Gator players were charged with felonies or violent misdemeanors. Hernandez is simply the worst of the worst.

I'll take Richt anyday, titles or not.

Proper editing would have caught this and yes you could change it last minute, of course having to bear the costs of said change.

This is either a total mess up on someone's part OR said someone has really bad taste and approved AH's presence.  You know the type - deniers that he is guilty - sycophants of AH and all things Florida Football.  There are plenty of those types for all teams.

Said someone should be fired - immediately.

Well, it's clear from your posts below that you've FAILED yet again at getting better. So quit running your lying yap about it and stop posting. Try backing up your words for a change; we'd all be better off.

Oh, it was "just poking fun"--remember, TG. At least that what you called it when you took your endless, tiresome cheap shots at Winston and FSU. Like I said earlier, jerk, you've got the whole package: hypocrisy, arrogance, dishonesty, denial, ignorance, cowardice, narcissism, etc.--all rolled into one nasty, smug, smarmy little man. Proud of it, too--aren't you?!

And....no......Hernandez is not a hero in GatorNation. He is despised by all in it for which he has been charged.

What exactly have the Pounceys done?  Mike made a stupid comment that he has since apologized for, and Maukice has done nothing but make all-pro every year he has been healthy.

Actually patriotdog, the new number from earlier this year in the Local Boston paper listed the entire names, dates and arrest on that one National Championship team at Florida to be at 38 and counting.

That is an extreme number and EVERYONE of those were on scholarship.

"Proper editing would have caught this"

Can some of you not read.  The copy and images in the calendar being produced by a sports marketing company were approved before Hernandez was arrested.  Likely printed before then as well.  So, now, the marketing people at the UF or other schools are supposed to be able to look into the future concerning approving things for production by outside sources?  This is a non story except for trolls and idiots.....and DawgNole falls into both of those categories.

Never used personal insults with any of those posts.  Big difference.  And I doubt you comprehended anything from the above post about sports merchandising.  Too much solid reasoning and fact involved and not enough emotion, I guess.

Not true.  Several were walk on players......6 in fact.  And most of the arrests have occurred after those players left the university.

TampGator1

"a dozen Gator players were charged with felonies or violent misdemeanors."

@PaulinNH

Nowhere in that article does it say the above.  And it does not mention the players arrested for "felonies or violent misdemeanors."

So, no thanks very much.

In fact, most of the players were arrested for very minor misdemeanors, such as under aged drinking, while on campus.  But you did have the Rainey deal with his girlfriend and the Wilson deal with firearms.  And neither were prosecuted for their offenses (dropped charges in Rainey's case and Wilson's offense was plea bargained for a first offense).

But, the fact remains that Meyer often put winning ahead of player character.  And I am glad the liar is now at Ohio State.  But, most of the players on that team behaved appropriately and have gone on to live excellent lives both in football and outside of it....after winning the 2008 National Title.  As have players from other national champions who have either messed up in college or after college.

I don't worship anything except my wife, children, and grandchildren, and they are the only things on this earth worthy of that worship.  But I do enjoy college football and the athletic teams of the University of Florida a bunch.  You know, the program that wins the all sports SEC title nearly on an annual basis.

How would I know, but I have a good guess based on common industry practices.  Most merchandise marketing firms package their materials with out related items, especially sports marketing firms, and the merchandise they are going to market are generally produced way in advance of distribution.  Therefore, it is highly likely that the calendars were printed shortly after the calendar proofs were OK'd by the sports marketing/communications department at U of F....and before Hernandez was arrested.  Once the proofs were approved by Florida, the production and sales of the calendar were completely out of the universities control.  But I do not expect you or many of you on here just trolling to comprehend that process.  Just keep trolling and insulting away....that is what you do, mindlessly.

PaulinNH

@DawgNole

You didn't know it is standard business practice to produce a product (in this case a calendar) a full 5 months before anyone is likely to buy it?

And, yes, I am extremely (not very) proud to be a graduate of the University of Florida and a financial supporter of the athletic programs there. It is a first class university that operates a first class athletic program.

He and others are not interesting in relevant thought that reflects reason and logic.  They just do what they do best......troll and insult others.  It somehow makes them think highly of themselves....and nearly prevents fun and intelligent blogging on here.

DawgNole
DawgNole

@PaulinNH @DawgNole

Yup. I also know that the hypocrite TG1 is in full denial/spin mode, and that he has no idea when the calendar was printed, and that he is having a difficult time dealing with the kind of bullcrap he dishes out on a regular basis when his school's rivals slip. You didn't know that?

And exactly what am I denying, DawgNole?  I am not denying anything.  I am providing helpful and educational information on why such an embarrassing error could occur, and most likely did, as I spent 27 years in merchandise marketing, advertising, and corporate communications.  But, what would I know?

TampGator1

@DawgNole

Big difference between approving a calendar before someone is accused of committing a crime than a star QB being accused of raping a woman and then going out and stealing seafood from Publix while casing out the women in the store in the process.  But, you just don't get facts and reason do you, DawgNole.  But you do get off on personally insulting people.
