The money is now on Todd Gurley to win the Heisman Trophy.
Of course, there’s nearly three months of the season to be played and votes aren’t due until December, so take that for what it’s worth.
Still, Georgia’s unstoppable running back rumbled to the top of the pack and is now the favorite — at 5-1 — to win this year’s Heisman Trophy, according to sportsbook Bovada.
There’s been a lot of movement at the top, with Gurley moving past Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, despite not playing last Saturday.
“The updated Heisman odds after Week 2 had Marcus Mariota as the favorite with Todd Gurley second and Jameis Winston and Kenny Hill tied for third at 15-2,” Kevin Bradley, Bovada’s sportsbook manager said. “However, an influx of money on second favorite Todd Gurley has catapulted him to the top of list, all alone now at 5-1.”
Bradley said the shifting is unusual for being so early in the season.
Gurley, who rushed for 198 yards and three TDs and returned a kick 100 yards and another score in the win over Clemson, is followed by Mariota, who is at 11-2.
Texas A&M QB Kenny Hill is third (15-2), followed by defending Heisman winner Jameis Winston (8-1), UCLA QB Brett Hundley (16-1), Notre Dame QB Everett Golson (16-1) and Auburn QB (Nick Marshall).
We’ll see if Gurley’s campaign is helped or takes a hit at South Carolina on Saturday.
