Bear with me. This one takes an explanation.
Drew Clayton, who graduated from Mississippi State, didn’t want to flush his chance at a grand marriage proposal.
His fiancee, Kayla Posey was finishing graduate school at Alabama last spring, where she worked as one of coach Nick Saban’s student assistants.
Her co-workers helped Clayton gain access to Saban’s office (he was out of town at the time), where he replaced one of the national championship rings with his ring. One of Posey’s jobs was to give tours of the athletic facilities, and Saban’s office was one of the stops.
Here’s how Al.com reported it (scroll to the bottom to see video of the moment):
He swapped out the 2012 BCS National Championship ring on Saban’s coffee table with Kayla’s custom-made diamond and then retreated to the only place in the office where a man could reasonably hide.
Nick Saban’s private bathroom.
“For 30 minutes, my stomach is churning and I’m waiting on Kayla to get back,” he said. “It was a very well-kept bathroom, as we would expect from such a perfect coach.”
Clayton wasn’t done. He even swiped one of Saban’s prized Oatmeal Creme Pies.
“I was kind of hungry, so I figured he wouldn’t miss one,” he told the news service.
When Posey entered the office to prepare it for the tour, she noticed the ring.
Clayton then exited the bathroom and proposed.
“I know she loves Alabama and loved working in that office,” Clayton said. “It was her place, so I knew she would never expect me to be there.”
