Move over Florida State.
Mississippi State should be No. 1 when the new polls are released Sunday.
I’m not saying they Bulldogs (6-0) will surpass the top-ranked Seminoles, but they’ve done their part.
They’ve defeated three top 10 teams in their past three games.
No. 3 in the streak was their 38-23 victory over No. 2 Auburn on Saturday.
It wasn’t their prettiest win of the season, but the Bulldogs have continued to show that they can score on the ground, through the air and play some mean defense. They can win at home and they can win on the road.
They are playing as well as any team in the country. And they deserve to be No. 1.
Florida State hasn’t exactly looked vulnerable the past three weeks, outscoring N.C. State, Wake Forest and Syracuse 137-64, but that’s not exactly a daunting lineup.
And it’s not comparable to LSU — even in a down year — Texas A&M and Auburn. And despite his two interceptions in the victory over Auburn, Dak Prescott is playing as well as any QB in the country.
On a day when rain slicked the footballs, Prescott turned to his legs and ran for 121 yards and two scores.
Coach Dan Mullen has gone from the hot seat to the hot list.
And Mississippi State deserves to be No. 1.
