Nick Saban couldn’t charm Jadeveon Clowney.
Alabama’s coach has been known to win over recruits with his in-home pitches and smooth talk, but he couldn’t entice Clowney into signing with the Tide out of Rock Hill, S.C., in 2010, according to a book called “Saban: The Making of a Coach.”
Here’s what Clowney said about Saban’s visit:
“I don’t see no big deal like everybody else. They’d say, ‘He’s the king of all of football.’ The guy ain’t nothing but 5-5. He’s a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban.
“He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour.”
Clowney ended up signing with South Carolina, where he was an All-America defensive end before being the No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft.
