The SEC dominated the preseason Coaches Poll with eight teams in the top 25, including UGA at No. 9.
Leading the SEC contingency was Alabama at No. 3, followed by Auburn at No. 7. The two in-state rivals have combined to win four of the last six national championships.
The other SEC team in the top 10 was UGA at No. 9. The Bulldogs have Heisman Trophy candidate Nick Chubb, but will need to find a quarterback to make a run at the SEC East title.
Three teams from the mighty SEC West teams help round out the top-20 — LSU (No. 13), Ole Miss (No. 15) and Arkansas (No. 20). Then it’s No. 23 Missouri and No. 25 Tennessee.
But the SEC love doesn’t end there: Mississippi State and Texas A&M finished just outside of the Top 25 at No. 26 and No. 27. On an interesting side note, Georgia Southern finished with as many votes as Florida (2), because of course.
Maybe we should ask Rutgers’ head coach Kyle Flood his opinion on the list. On Thursday at the Big Ten Media Days, he did claim the Big Ten East was the best division in all of college football, right?
That’s certainly going out on a limb, especially considering the fact that only two of those schools – Ohio State and Michigan State – made the list.

- Ohio State

- Florida State
- Notre Dame
