Banjo Bowl? Tennessee-Vanderbilt rivalry needs a nickname

OK. Go ahead and say it.

The annual game between Tennessee and Vanderbilt isn’t much of a rivalry.

As some in-state clashes go, this isn’t exactly the Iron Bowl.

, but has remained nameless.

The (Nashville) Tennessean recently asked its readers for ideas to name the yearly game, and several had some quite original ideas.

Here are some of my favorites from a huge list:

  • Banjo Bowl
  • Country Music Cup
  • Davy Crockett Bowl
  •  I-40 Feud
  • Jackson-Crockett Cup (In reference to President Andrew Jackson and Crockett)
  • River Rumble (Rivers are near each campus)
  • Smoky Mountain Showdown
  • Tennessee Tussle Bowl
  • Tennessee Waltz

There are many others if you click the link, and the newspaper will buy a cup or trophy for the winner to retain every year.

Hopefully, it’ll be something gaudy.

Let us know what you think.
