The Geno Smith debacle made viral waves on Tuesday, with the New York Jets starting quarterback and linebacker IK Enemkpali fighting over money owed by Smith. The result: Smith will miss at least 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw, while Enemkpali was cut by the team.
With Smith out for the foreseeable future, the Jets will turn to backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. That probably doesn’t excite the Jets fan base, but maybe this will:
Lorenzen, now 34, quarterbacked Kentucky from 2000-03 and played four seasons for the New York Giants, earning a Super Bowl ring as Eli Manning’s backup. The portly signal caller played last season for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Ultimate Indoor Football League.
Take a look at 320 pounds of greatness:
The Jets were in trouble even with Smith at quarterback, who has 25 touchdowns to 34 interceptions in two seasons. Maybe the Jets can throw in the towel on 2015 and entertain the rest of us with Lorenzen and his Super Bowl-winning pedigree.
