The Arkansas Razorbacks’ hope for a halfway decent season took a significant hit on Sunday when it was announced Jonathan Williams will miss significant time due to a left foot injury that will require surgery.
Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema made the announcement on Sunday:
With Williams’ status for the 2015 season in question, the Razorbacks lose half of the 1-2 punch in the backfield they had last season. Williams rushed for 1,190 yards, while Alex Collins added 1,100 yards. The duo’s performance was a throwback to the Darren McFadden-Felix Jones days, which was the last time Arkansas had two running backs rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same season.
Now that Williams is on the shelf, the door is open for Collins to put himself on the map as one of the country’s premiere running backs. He’ll be a junior this season.
The Razorbacks finished 7-6 last season and open the year on Sept. 5 against UTEP.
