As the Gators break fall camp Friday, they end it with some bad news.

Jim McElwain revealed Thursday that freshman offensive tackle Martez Ivey, who was a consensus five-star prospect, will miss time with a leg injury that will require arthroscopic surgery.

There is no timetable for Ivey’s return. Apopka High’s James Delgado, who was Ivey’s offensive line coach in high school, told the Orlando Sentinel that Ivey has a slightly torn meniscus in his left knee and could miss up to four weeks.

This is especially painful for Florida because Ivey was one of the standouts at camp and was expected to begin the season as one of the starting offensive tackles. With the Gators’ thin offensive line, this is just another blow for the group.

The Gators will have to rely on the combination of freshman Fred Johnson from Royal Palm Beach High School, sophomore David Sharpe and transfer senior Mason Halter to step up at tackle.
