Derek Mason: ‘I don’t accept losing. I don’t believe in it’

The Vanderbilt Commodores kicked off the season with a tough 14-12  loss against Western Kentucky on Thursday night.

Vandy came within two points, but a failed 2-point conversion and onside kick sealed the deal.

Johnny McCrary, who was recently named Vanderbilt’s starting quarterback, threw two interceptions in the red zone to end Commodore drives.

After a difficult 3-9 season in 2015, Derek Mason and the Commodores needed a win to kick off 2015, but they came up short against the Hilltoppers.

There was already pressure on Mason after his rough debut last season, and Thursday’s upset loss to a lower-tier FBS school will only make things worse. And the schedule won’t get any easier with Georgia and Ole Miss to play later this month.
