Auburn jumped to a three-score lead, then held on for a 31-24 victory against Louisville on Saturday at the Georgia Dome.

With the Tigers up 24-0 early in the third, the Cardinals chipped away at the lead and with Auburn leading by the game’s final margin, it came down to Auburn’s final possession.

The Tigers appeared to run out the clock inside the final minute of the game, but they were called for a holding penalty. That extended the game and stopped the clock, but Petrino was clearly confused if the clock would continue to run following the hold.

Petrino called Louisville’s final timeout – unnecessarily – and the Tigers were then allowed to run out the clock.
